"Therefore encourage one another and build each other up." (I Thessalonians 5:11)
Have you ever thought about being a mentor? You don't need special skills; your experience, love for the Lord and willing heart will be enough. Simply ask the Lord to bring that special young woman into your life.
The purpose of Heart to Heart is to give younger women (by age or spiritual growth) the opportunity to hear and be encouraged by an older woman's (by age or spiritual growth) Godly perspective on life...and defined from the other side, to give the spiritually mature woman the opportunity to respond to God's call to ministry found in Titus 2.
The ministry has become multi-level and depending upon your needs and desires, you will be involved in one of the following:
Encouraging Friendship
This is a ministry of encouragement. It is not necessarily a formal discipleship program, nor is it an in-depth counseling service; but rather it is friendship for support, guidance, love and encouragement. A list of suggested ways of accomplishing this will be available to you.
Mentoring Friendship
"A mentor is someone who is further down the road from you who is goingwhere you want to go and who is willing to share life experiences to help you get there."
Mentoring is the deliberate transfer of wisdom to another. This can be accomplished by teaching homemaking arts, hobbies; how to have a quiet time, by sharing thoughts and prayers; visiting home bound women together; how to set up a budget or save quarters for a special trip; how to calm a cranky kid or just to assure your partner that the stage of stress she is in will change - eventually!
This is an opportunity for older/younger relationships to grow in God's love and example in day-to-day experiences.
Discipleship Relationship
In a discipline relationship you meet with your partner regularly to learn how to study the Bible, share your personal experiences in the Lord, to pray and praise God and to serve Him through your church to your community.
A 9-week study guide is available for one-on-one relationships. Several women who have been through this study are available to work with you in this growth opportunity.
"A godly woman is simply acting out of obedience 10 God's clearly, stated command in what she has, and who she is, she is imparting God's truth and extending fond affection, she is being Jesus with skin and bones to the woman to whom God calls her to reach out." (Quote from Between Women of God by Donna Otto)
As a Heart-to-Heart participant you will commit to:
Make a one-year commitment to the relationship.
Contact each other once a week and meet at least once a month.
Pray for each other regularly.
Do things together (whether it be Bible study, shopping, learning a new skill, or just going to lunch; each pair of partners is free to do what they want as long as they work on developing the relationship).
We ask that all partners pray for each other, for through prayer we can truly begin to understand the heart of our partner and can experience the presence of God in our developing relationships. Remember always the responsibility and privilege of confidentiality in our relationships.
Once a month you will be contacted by a committee member who will encourage you, remind you of contact opportunities or make suggestions as to what other partnerships have found successful.
